Wednesday Midday Prayer

At midday on Wednesday, we join together, wherever we are, to prayer together. As well as our own personal prayers, each week we all include mention of one issue. Please join us in our weekly Wednesday Midday prayer.

Wednesday 29th April 2026
This week can we include the population of Mali in our prayers. Fighting has been going on in Mali since the middle of January and on Friday last a major, concerted effort by many different groups has occurred around the country, with the capital also being attacked. There is no word of casualties but the army is fully engaged in countering these attacks.

Wednesday 22nd April 2026
This Wednesday can we include in our prayers at midday the two shootings in schools in Turkey. In the first shooting, 19 pupils were injured, and the shooter then killed himself. The following day, at a different school, 9 people were killed and 13 injured by a pupil at the school, using his father's guns. It is not known whether the pupil killed himself or was shot by police.

Wednesday 15th April 2026
This Wednesday, can we give thanks for all the folk involved in the flight round the moon. This was a truly impressive feat, and the "down to earth" attitude of the four crew was humbling. Literally hundreds of people were involved in this achievement. Can we pray that all that experience and expertise will be used for the good of mankind  all over the world.

Wednesday 8th April 2026
While there is mayhem and madness around the world with major conflagrations still being unresolved, there are still incidents, which in their own right would normally attract world wide headlines - e.g. the gang warfare in Haiti which has been going on for years and which recently has left 16 folks dead with many more injured and hundreds displaced. This week in Lima, Peru, prior to a football match, there was a rally; it seems part of a football stand collapsed, leaving one dead and dozens injured, many critically.
Can we keep both the above incidents in our prayers this Wednesday, and can we also pray that we do not become so used to the real violence and death shown on TV news each night that we begin to simply ignore it.

Wednesday 1st April 2026
This week can we remember those refugees trying to cross the Mediterranean. This week 22 people died trying to cross from Tripoli in Libya to Greece.  They  were caught in a rubber boat in bad weather without food or water for six days. Twenty six survivors were rescued by the Greek coastguard. Two smugglers have been charged. This brings the total known to have lost their lives in the Mediterranean in the first two months of this year to around 600.

Wednesday 25th March 2026
This week can we keep the folk of Hawaii in our prayers. People on the island of Oahu have suffered severe flooding twice in the past 10 days, and over 5000 have been affected with many rescued from their roofs. A major dam on the island is about to overflow, and there are fears it may breach. It really goes without saying, but please keep the main troubles in Ukraine and the Middle East in the forefront of your prayers, as well as the seeming instability of the American president conducting one of the wars and meddling in the other.

Wednesday 18th March 2026
This Wednesday, can we pray for the situation in Georgia, America. A teacher died at his home when a practical joke by five of his pupils went wrong... All were arrested and faced various charges, including murder. The teacher's family asked the authorities to drop the charges as they accepted the circumstances were simply a prank which had gone wrong. Pray firstly for the compassion and understanding shown by the man's family at such a traumatic time; pray also for the young folk involved that they will learn and mature as a result of these circumstances.

Wednesday 11th March 2026
There is so much going on in the world just now that it seems prayer covering it all is a hopeless task; however, remember that God hears our prayers even amongst the din and distractions of multiple conflicts this week. Can we pray for the people of Nairobi, Kenya who have suffered flooding. "Only" 23 people have died in this inundation, but all are precious to God, and their plight is just as important as the thousands involved in, or displaced by, war, and their deaths will be felt just as keenly by relatives.

Wednesday 4th March 2026
This week, can we include in our prayers the major story in the world, the extension of war into Iran, and Iran's retaliation across countries around them. There have been a lot of self-righteous statements in justification of this action, but sadly it seems to be simply an extension and exacerbation of the ongoing conflicts in the area rather than a way of gaining peace. Please pray for the situation, and ask that wiser heads prevail, so tensions in the area may be reduced to the level that discussions can again take place.

Wednesday 25th February 2026
This week with our Wednesday prayers, can we remember the situation in Sudan. There has been a civil war going on in Sudan for some time, and although we have prayed about it before, it has sunk into the background due to the other major conflicts which have taken up our attention. The situation in Sudan is now classified as "genocide" - please keep this in mind with your own prayers this Wednesday.

Wednesday 18th February 2026
This week, with our own prayers this Wednesday, can we include the victims of another school shooting, this time in Canada. Nine people are dead (including the shooter) and twenty seven injured in a school in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. No motive has been identified for this shooting which was carried out by a former pupil who is known to the police and had mental issues. Two of the dead were his mother and younger brother.

Wednesday 11th February 2026
For our Wednesday prayer this week, can we include the suicide bombing at a shia mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan. There are scant details of the incident, but 31 have been killed and 170 injured.

Wednesday 4th February 2026
This week can we remember those involved in the mining accident in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Over 200 are dead, including women and children in the collapse. The mining was unregulated and in the control of the rebels who had taken it over some months ago. Physical conditions were/are not very secure and the same defects which made the collapse possible are severely hampering rescue attempts.

Wednesday 28th January 2026
This week can we remember those killed and injured in two train crashes in Spain. In a high speed crash between two trains, 45 were killed and many injured;  the cause of the crash, which was on a straight stretch of track, is not known. The second crash, at the other end of the country, was caused by a trackside wall falling across the line, killing the driver. It appears the wall had been undermined  by extremely heavy rain.

Wednesday 21st January 2026
This Wednesday, with our personal prayers at noon, can we include the fate of the Rohinga people in the camps in Bangladesh. We prayed for this situation about 6 years ago, when the Rohingas were driven from their homes in Myanmar (Burma) by the military, and around 1 million of them set up in a refugee camp in Bangladesh.

Wednesday 14th January 2026
Can we keep in our prayers this week the people of Iran, who have en masse been on the streets demonstrating against the government. News getting out of Iran shows that at least 50 folk, mostly young, have been killed, many with single shots to the head, and that there are at least 2000 injured. It seems that an already bad situation is being made worse by Donald Trump's pronouncements. Please pray that wise heads prevail in that situation, and of course keep the other situations in the world in the foremost of your prayers.

Wednesday 7th January 2026
Sadly, for the first joint prayer of the new year, can we pray for all those involved in the fire in Switzerland. Forty people have died and around 119 have been injured, many seriously. Burns victims have been distributed around Europe some of the bodies have still to be identified. Astoundingly, the fire was made much worse by the fact there were no fire escapes, and people were trapped inside the club. Videos taken on phones show the ceiling was set on fire with sparklers used in the celebrations. Please pray for all those involved, particularly those families still awaiting news of their loved ones.

Wednesday 31st December 2025
This year has not been great for the world. Over the year we have prayed for natural disasters, earthquakes, fires and floods. Our news bulletins routinely carried wars in Ukraine, the middle east, along with drug wars in South America. We have prayed for hundreds crossing the channel and the Mediterranean trying to escape to a new life -- the list is endless.

This week, can we give thanks for the good things in our lives this past year-- after years of uncertainty, our church has a new minister who is already making a difference; some families have new youngsters; others are celebrating engagements or marriages. There is much in our lives to thank God for, and we are often guilty of failing to do so. So, this Wednesday let us stop at noon and reflect on his goodness to us.

Wednesday 24th December 2025
At this Christmas time can we remember the folks in Spain, whose villages have been completely flooded and who will be out of their homes over the festive period. Can we also remember those in the south of England who are anticipating being flooded out due to the forecast, and whose Christmas is being spoiled due to the circumstances.

Wednesday 17th December 2025
This week, can we give thanks that 100 young folk of the 250 abducted in Niger a month ago have been released and returned to their school by the army. No details of their release have been forthcoming, and around 150 are still missing

Wednesday 10th December 2025
This week in our Wednesday prayers, can we include the shooting in a shebeen near Pretoria, South Africa. Twelve folk, including three children were killed and twelve others seriously injured. Random shootings appear to be on the increase around the world. Please pray for this situation.

Wednesday 3rd December 2025
This Wednesday, can we include the following in our prayers at 12 noon on Wednesday - the disaster in Hong Kong. 128 people are known to be dead in the major high flats fire, at least 150 are missing and 83 known to be injured. This occurred during renovation work on the flats and it seems the bamboo scaffolding and non-fireproof wrapping materials were a major factor. Also, 600 people are dead after major flooding in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka caused by tropical monsoon storms. thousands are missing

Wednesday 26th November 2025
This Wednesday, we should pray for the 300 children and 12 of their teachers, who have been abducted in central Nigeria. This abduction is seemingly only the latest in a series of abductions in the area and the authorities are having great difficulty in dealing with it. The situation is similar to, but much more serious than, that of the Chibok girls whom we prayed for some years ago. Sadly, there is a dearth of information about it. If you recall, the Chibok girls, who were all Christian, were forced, at gunpoint, to convert to Islam - this was videoed for the world to see.

Wednesday 19th November 2025
This week can we return to a subject we have neglected for some time, as we concentrated on bigger problems and disasters; There are still many refugees crossing the Mediterranean from Libya, and many losing their lives in doing so. In the last few days 10 men whose craft had capsized were pulled from the water after 6 days. Refugees speak of being robbed and raped by the people they pay money to for their journey.
Pray for these people who risk everything for a better life, and pray too, for those controlling and directing rescue services

Wednesday 12th November 2025
Yet again can we pray for the folks in the Philippines; they have had a tough time this last few weeks with hurricanes, which have killed a conservative 200 people and left devastation in their wake. The Philippines are again facing a typhoon which is expected to be more severe than those of the past weeks.
We talk glibly about global warming, and are bothered with the excesses in our own weather, but keep in mind that we have not experienced anything like the weather in the Philippines or in the Gulf of Mexico which we have been praying about these past few weeks

Wednesday 5th November 2025
This week, can we remember the victims of the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. Numbers of those killed vary greatly, but newsreel videos of devastation in Jamaica and Cuba show great areas of the townships completely flattened, with folk combing through the destruction in an attempt to salvage something to eat and drink. Pray the authorities (including Britain) get their act together quickly and get assistance to those who had very little before the storm and are now completely destitute.

Wednesday 29th October 2025
There is so much going on in the world just now that the need for prayer is overwhelming.  Your prayers this Wednesday will continue, I hope, over the plight of refugees, particularly children, in Gaza. Sadly, now that Israel has pulled back,  there is internal fighting between rival factions, and the plight of those trapped there seems just as bad as ever.
Can we also pray for the families of the 25 folks killed in a bus fire in India. it seems most of the 44 passengers were sleeping, when a motor cycle crashed into the rear of the bus, causing the fuel tank to rupture and catch fire. Despite the drivers efforts with an extinguisher, the fire was so intense he was unable to extinguish it.

Wednesday 22nd October 2025
This week can we include with our Wednesday prayers the floods in Mexico. Hundreds of villages have been cut off and at least 60 folk are known to have died

Wednesday 15th October 2025
This week can we give thanks for the ceasefire in the Middle East; Pray that it develops into a full-time peace. Can we also remember the flooding in Mexico; at least 76 people have died and there are many injured. Sadly, the Philippines, whom we recently prayed for, have suffered another major earthquake. there is no report of casualties yet.

Wednesday 8th October 2025
This Wednesday can we remember with our prayers, the people of the Philippines. The area has suffered a major earthquake and at least 60 have been killed. Given the large number of islands it has been difficult to tally those killed, injured or missing.

Wednesday 1st October 2025
This week, can we concentrate on our own church. As our new minister takes up his post, pray for him and his family, that they will settle in to the new charge and be able to bring life into the new, joined congregations. Pray for the church as a whole, that we will continue to serve the Lord with all our being, as we move on in our new format.

Wednesday 24th September 2025
This week with your Wednesday Prayers can you include the people of Nepal. In the past 15 years, Nepal has had 14 different governments. For the past three days there have been riots in Kathmandu - most of the government buildings have been destroyed by fire, and at least 70 unarmed people, mostly students, were shot and killed by the police. The interim government which has taken over has promised democratic elections within 3 months. Please pray for stability for the ordinary population of this troubled country.

Wednesday 17th September 2025
This week, with our prayers at noon on Wednesday, can we include the following - the people of Punjab, India have suffered the worst flood disaster since 1988; Since September 2055 about 4 million people have been displaced from their homes and over 8 thousand villages destroyed. Almost 2 million folk have been rescued.

Pray that these folks who are classed amongst the worlds poorest can recover their lives when the floods recede.

Wednesday 10th September 2025
This week, when we stop what we are doing at midday on Wednesday for our individual prayers, can we all remember the ordinary folk of Afghanistan who suffered a major earthquake a week ago. At least 1000 have been killed and several thousand injured. On top of the deaths and injuries, the civil infrastructure of the country is not able to cope with such a disaster and access to the many villages which have been destroyed is extremely difficult
