Safeguarding in the church
It is the responsibility of each individual within the fellowship of the Church to prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children and young people. This is also extended to the protection of vulnerable adults.Any incident that you feel may be an abuse of another person, or any situation that you feel might lead to abuse should be discussed in the first instance with the safeguarding coordinator; currently William Phillips (01360 440815). This will allow them to express their concerns and feelings in confidence.
If there is a case that may need to be investigated then the coordinator will call a meeting of the safeguarding team who will then decide if this has to be taken again in confidence to the Kirk Session. The Minister, who has an important pastoral role to everyone in the church family, may then be involved at this stage.
Everyone who is involved with young people in any capacity at present in the church MUST be security checked, even if they have been police checked in another situation.
